[for a house that is both homey, & hella-cute!]

1. don't be afraid of color!
    mix warm shades with cool shades in complimentary tones. 
    pick one or two stand out colors against a more neutral palette 
    and it will have a POP effect.
    [i am personally a huge fan of black, white, & PINK!]

2. mix & match! not only colors, but also textures and patterns. 
    who says you can't have an animal print  with a geometric pattern?
    patterns & colors will give the room a more LUXURIOUS feel.

3. decorate from end to end! 
    the bare minimum will leave you feeling just that...bare. 
    don't ignore the details, such as the lighting,
    [splurge on an awesome crystal chandalier!] 
    attention to detail makes all the difference. 
    if you decorate corner to corner, the room will feel more cozy and warm, 
    and it will also be alot more interesting!

4. DO NOT MAKE EVERY WALL THE SAME
     [IF YOU ARE USING A DARK COLOR!] 
    It's a fatal mistake that so many people make, 
    & it will just make the room feel tiny & dark.
    If you are playing with a dramatic color, like hot pink or red,
    avoid the jail-cell feel by painting the color on only one or two walls. 
    you can bring the color to the other, neutral walls,
    with art or window dressings.

5.  decorate with things that you actually use!  
     [books, candles, magazines, pillows etc.] 
     you don't need 1,000 doo-dads, 
     a few little treasures are okay, but don't get carried away!
     It's important to stay organized and keep it looking clean
     [but not necessarily simple].

6. get non-conventional with the arranging of your furniture. 
    who feels like walking into a room with a chair in front of a tv?
    BORING! angle chairs and couches, as well as rugs and tables. 
    play around with it, but remember, you want it to feel spacious!

7. create the illusion of space:
    using windows, lighting, as well as light colors and natural light
    will make a room feel bigger, 
    also adding mirrors to a wall creates depth!

8. every room needs a focal point: 
    a fireplace, remarkable art, or a statement piece of furniture. 
    center the room around that particular piece!

9. personalize it! 
    It's your space, so it should be a reflection of YOU!
    add photos and fresh flowers for a heartwarming touch,
    and a piece of art that truly speaks to who you are.

10. most importantly, HAVE FUN WITH IT!
